It's true, we don't have a television.
But during the game, we welcome all townies, regulars, casual sports bystanders, girlfriends and wives, really anybody not so interested in viewing the Dawgs' latest win--that could be you! Unlike many weekends, it's easy to walk in or make a reservation while the football game is on. To avoid the difficult parking on game days, we recommend taking a Lyft or Uber to get downtown. Make a pit stop at the bar for a cocktail because now you can! Most importantly, all season long we are thrilled to offer a special 3-course dinner menu during the game for those who care to spend the evening with us!
As always, score updates are available on request 😉

Have you heard? Last year The National took home 2nd Place in the Jekyll Island Shrimp and Grits Competition, and this year we're going for the gold! But first, we need your help to win the people's vote that will take us there. Vote now and vote often through July 14 if you think we should represent our region, the Historic Heartland, in the 2017 Competition.
If you're not convinced yet, don't take our word for it! Our delicious take on classic Shrimp & Grits is available at lunch all week. We serve up sweet Georgia shrimp sautéed with Spanish chorizo, cherry tomato, leeks, peppers and kale over creamy local Red Mule polenta with fresh corn folded in. Yum.
On Saturday, June 10
join us for a block-party-style literary event in Five Points! Hosted by Avid Bookshop, David Sedaris will read from his latest book Theft by Finding. Although the in-store event sold out within minutes, the lawn behind the Henrietta Apartments will be open and the reading audible via speakers for all the public to hear. Plus! Mr. Sedaris will be available to sign your copy of Theft by Finding into the late hours of the evening.
Beginning at 5:30pm, you can grab a ticket from Avid for the book signing, so arrive early and enjoy the block party -- you'll receive a text when it's your turn to meet Mr. Sedaris! All night you can enjoy snacks and drinks at Condor Chocolates alongside a mini-pop up from The National. Creature Comforts Tropicalia will be available on the lawn as well.
What a great excuse to spend this Saturday evening in Five Points. Thanks Avid!
FAQ'S from AVID AT FIVE POINTS
I'm not attending the reading portion, but still want to meet Mr. Sedaris and get books signed. What can I do while I wait?
Our Five Points neighborhood is full of wonderful local establishments to help you pass the time! We highly recommend grabbing dinner and drinks at The Royal Peasant, Donna Chang's, or The Pine. The National will have a pop-up at Condor Chocolates! If you need a caffeine boost, grab some coffee at Jittery Joe's or Two Story Coffeehouse. Find a delectable dessert at Condor Chocolates.
Where can I park my car?
We are securing overflow parking thanks to our Five Points Business Association partners. Current parking locations (besides public parking) include Bella Salon, Fleet Feet Sports Athens, and Milledge Avenue Baptist Church.
If I didn't get a ticket to the reading, when can I join the signing line?
We will open up the signing line to the public once all ticket holders have gotten their books signed. We estimate that we will open the doors to the public around 9 p.m. We will distribute tickets (which are first-come, first-served) starting at 5:30pm and will call people in groups via text messaging according to their ticket number. This way, you can hang out in the Five Points area instead of standing in line for hours!
I heard David Sedaris will stay until the wee hours to meet people and sign their books. Is this true?
Yes! Mr. Sedaris will be at Avid at Five Points until he has met each and every one of his fans. So if you didn't get tickets to the reading portion, or can't make it to the shop until later in the evening, don't fret! We anticipate this book party to run well into the night.
Can I view a livestream of the reading, or watch a recording of the event later?
Per the publisher's request, we cannot record or air live video of the event; however, we will be broadcasting a live audio recording of Mr. Sedaris’s reading outside the bookshop.
Can I have my picture taken with Mr. Sedaris?
We’re sorry, no photographs are allowed.
I've ordered a copy of Theft By Finding. When can I get it?
You can pick up your book on or after May 30th, when it comes out, or on the day of the event. If you have already purchased a copy and can't make it to the event, we can get it signed for you.
Can I get a signed book if I can't make it to the reading?
Absolutely! Place an order via phone or online and we will get you a signed copy. We ship everywhere around the nation.

Dine at The National after attending the Concerto for Violin, Rock Band, and String Orchestra by R.E.M.'s Mike Mills for Robert McDuffie!
Don't miss the Georgia premiere of Mike Mills and Robert McDuffie's Concerto for Violin, Rock Band and String Orchestra on Monday, October 24 at Hodgson Concert Hall.
Inspired by the blurred lines between classical, pop, and contemporary music, renowned violinist Robert McDuffie commissioned a new composition from R.E.M.’s Mike Mills, one of the most prolific songwriter/composers from the world of rock and pop. Mills and McDuffie have been close friends since they were teenagers growing up in Macon, GA, and now these two music legends have embarked on an exciting collaboration with the premiere of Mills’s Concerto for Violin, Rock Band, and String Orchestra featuring Fifth House Ensemble. This is a not-to-be-missed Athens concert event.
For tickets to the Concerto, go here!
Following the performance, The National would love to have you for dinner! We are offering extended hours to 11pm on Monday, October 24. Call 706-549-3450 or email email@example.com to reserve your table today!
