ATHENS, GA: THE OTHER CLASSIC CITY
The recent article in The Canadian Jewish News begins
“As we drive along the shady streets of this college town 97 kilometres northeast of Atlanta, the soothing tones of a radio announcer welcome us to “Athens, the Classic City.” He seems to speak directly to us, as we gaze at the town’s neoclassical architecture – they seem to have a thing for white columns in these parts.”
With a picturesque introduction, our neighbors from the north embark on a tour of some of the best Athens has to offer, from food to music to history. All these things are the cornerstones of community in this city we call home.
It was indeed a happy strange circumstance for our Canadian Hugh Acheson to make his way to Athens and Southern food, but we sure are glad that happy strangeness came to be.
